OUR MEMBERSHIP

We continuously accept applications for membership from interested citizens, which upon MRC review and support, are then forwarded to the Governor's Office for screening and appointment. The Council is made up of approximately 25 members, comprised of both voting and non-voting (ex-officio) status. We strive to maintain a population which reflects the diversity of our state. The majority of our members must be persons who self identify as having a disability.  As well, we are mandated to have voting members which represent a statewide cross section of the disability community. The public Vocational Rehabilitation Agency, MRS is represented by the State Director, the agency Ombudsperson, and case carrying Counselor staff.

THE COMMITMENT

Each MRC member serves at the pleasure of the Governor of Michigan. On an average, members should be able to spend 4 to 6 hours per month on Council activities. MRC members will receive reimbursement for reasonable and necessary expenses as needed to support their active participation at business meetings and other related functions.  This may include mileage, meals, personal assistance services & childcare.  Any individual interested in pursuing an appointment, should contact our office.
